What could you do to challenge yourself, and make a difference to the lives of adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse at the same time?
Run a 10K. Walk 25 kilometres. Take on a marathon. Trek through the night. Push yourself towards something you have never thought you could do.
Every year, people choose to take on challenges like these to raise money for One in Four.
Behind every mile walked, every training session completed, and every donation collected is a simple decision: to do something that helps survivors get the support they need.
And that decision matters.
Why your fundraising matters
One in Four supports adults who have experienced sexual abuse in childhood.
The effects of childhood sexual abuse can continue long into adulthood, affecting mental health, relationships, work and almost every aspect of someone’s life. At One in Four, we believe survivors deserve specialist, long-term, trauma-informed support and the time and space they need to rebuild their lives.
Providing that support requires funding.
That is why people who choose to fundraise for us are such an important part of One in Four.
You don’t need to raise thousands of pounds or be an experienced athlete. Every challenge undertaken and every pound raised contributes to our ability to be there for survivors.
Just as importantly, every person who tells friends, family and colleagues why they are supporting One in Four helps to break the silence surrounding childhood sexual abuse.

Different reasons. One shared purpose.
People choose to support One in Four for many different reasons.
For some, an experience earlier in their lives has stayed with them:
“When I was younger I did lots of work experience with a local lawyer who worked on child protection cases. I spent time with him going to multi-agency meetings in our local area about child abuse and how to help. I was involved in a number of child protection cases โ ultimately I found it too hard to continue working there and having a career involved in that area.”
But those experiences did not disappear:
“My experiences have always stayed with me and if I can help in any way โ I would like to.”
For others, it is greater awareness of the scale of childhood sexual abuse and its lasting impact that prompts them to act:
“I was inspired to raise support for One in Four because of all the recent coverage of child abuse โ the Epstein files etc โ and realising just how prevalent and damaging it is to so many young people. I feel it is extremely important not just to support victims but also to raise awareness.”
These supporters may have different reasons for getting involved, but they have something important in common.
They decided to turn concern into action.

What could your challenge be?
A challenge doesn’t have to mean running a marathon.
It could be your first 10K, a long-distance walk with friends, a cycling challenge, a swim, a sponsored event at work or something completely of your own making.
The best challenge is one that means something to you.
Something that makes you slightly nervous when you sign up. Something you need to prepare for. Something that gives you a moment at the finish line when you can look back and think: I did that.
And knowing that you did it for survivors can make that achievement even more meaningful.
